DeKALB – Robert W. Schneider, 80, of DeKalb, Ill., died Wednesday night, Oct. 16, 2013, at Kishwaukee Hospital, DeKalb.|
Robert was born May 28, 1933, in Loudonville, Ohio, and was the son of the late Richard H. and V. Marie (Bernhard) Schneider.
He was a graduate of Wooster College in Wooster, Ohio, and earned a Ph.D. in history from the University of Minnesota. Robert retired from the History Department at Northern Illinois University where he taught for many years. He authored two books and several publications on American History.
Robert is survived by his wife, Marianne, whom he married on March 15, 1983; children, Richard J. Schneider, of San Diego, Calif., Ronald E. (Charlotte) Schneider, of Boulder, Colo., and Lynne E. Schneider (Leland J. Scott), of Eagan, Minn.; stepchildren, Nelson (Charlene) Kepner and Mary Garrison; and sisters, Barbara Harris, of Waterford, Mich., and Bonnie Weirick, of Perrysville, Ohio.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Ohio. Cremation will take place at the Finch Crematory.
