Mary Lee Krauss, 81, of Milford, DE passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at Milford Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Krauss was born in Milford, DE the daughter of the late Philip Robinson and Eleanor (Titus) Jacobs. She was a graduate of Milford High School Class of 1950 and then attended Wesley College in Dover. She and her husband Tig ran a number of businesses in the Milford area including Jacobs and Krauss Insurance and Calloway Wilburt Vault Company as well as raising three children. She and her husband lived on a property that Mary Lee's family has owned since 1867 and is designated as a Century Farm.
She was a longtime active member of the Shawnee Country Club, and enjoyed playing golf and bowling. She played field hockey in High School and College and served as Captain of the High School Squad. She and her husband were volunteers at K.S.I. in Milford. She was also an organizer of the Milford High School Class of 1950 Annual Reunion. She also dabbled in painting and enjoyed working on family genealogy. She was a strong Democratic party supporter and was a member of the local Democratic Committee.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years H. Tilghman "Tig" Krauss; two sons Howard Tilghman "Rusty" Krauss II and his wife Suzanne Thomassen-Krauss, of Vienna, VA and Philip D. Krauss and his wife Joan of Milford; and a daughter Cheryl L. Elliott and her husband Jeffrey of Seaford; 9 grandchildren Philip T. Krauss and his wife Crystal, Alison L. Krauss, Daniel H. Krauss, Emily A. Krauss, Nicole Brooks, Robert Brooks, Andrew Brooks, Thomas J. Elliott and Tyler J. Elliott; and 4 great grandchildren Henry Krauss, Norah Krauss, Jamie Brooks and Colin Brooks.
Friends may visit from 5 - 7 pm on Sunday, October 19, 2014 at the Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Avenue, Milford where family and friends will begin sharing memories of Mary Lee at 6 pm. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to either K.S.I., 301 North Rehoboth Blvd, Milford, DE 19963 or to the National Kidney Foundation, Finance Department, 30 East 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016.
