Miriam Kramer Obituary
MILTON – Miriam Kramer of Milton, DE, passed away on Christmas day, December 25, 2014. She was 99 years old. Born April 8, 1915, in Quakertown, PA, to Wilson and Jennie Hixson, she graduated in the class of 1933 from Kutztown High School in Pennsylvania. Miriam married Glenn H. Kramer, and they moved to Milton, DE, in 1943.

Miriam was known in Milton for her lovely vegetable and flower gardens. She was a fine seamstress, and made clothes for her family and sewed for neighbors. She was especially proud of a striped shirt she made without a pattern for her husband when she was a young bride. Always an ambitious homemaker and hard worker, she mowed the town cemetery at one time and did her bit for ecology by collecting aluminum cans and recycling them. She helped a fifth grade class in Milford Middle School collect one million pull tabs from soda cans and gave them 300,000 pull tabs herself. The money made by recycling the tabs netted over $400.00 which was donated to Saint Jude's Children's Hospital. Miriam had many creative interests. She was a writer and recorded many interesting "incidents" as she called them and delighted her friends and family with the reading of them. She also embroidered beautiful pictures and created Christmas wreaths from unusual materials. She designed pictures of landscapes out of buttons; and carved jewelry from peach pits.

She served as Secretary to the Milton Senior Citizens' group for 13 years and enjoyed their fellowship very much. She attended Church in Milton at the old Grace Methodist Church and Goshen United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, Miriam was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn H. Kramer, who died in 1985; 4 sisters: Dorothy Schaetzle, Pauline Reichert, Anna Miller, and Catharine Talbott from Pennsylvania; as well as a much beloved great grandson, Ethan Robert Kennedy.

Still living are one brother, Wilson Hixson of New Port Richey, Florida; and sisters: Eelyn Adam, and Violet Schaeffer of Pennsylvania. Those who will keep her precious memory forever are her children: Errol Lee Kramer and his wife, Brenda, of Vero Beach Florida; Cheryl Hoey of Milford, DE; Janice Kennedy and her husband, Robert Kennedy, III, of Lewes, DE; Mirlene Roberts and her husband, Curt, of Felton, DE; Nancy Ingram and her husband, Richard, of Dagsboro, DE.; and Linda Kramer of Vero Beach, FL. She has many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Miriam will be missed by her family and friends for her loving and caring ways, and also her uplifting and cheery spirit which she brought to the sick, lonely and elderly to whom she visited and brought much laughter and joy.

A funeral service will be held Monday, December 29, 2014 at 1:00pm in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal Street, Milton, with visitation from 12-1pm. Burial will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: American SIDS Institute, 528 Raven Way, Naples, FL 34110 or , Delaware Valley Chapter, 399 Market Street, Suite 102, Philadelphia, PA 19106.
