Barbara Spence

Barbara Hullah Spence passed away on April 17, 2013, after a long battle with cancer. She was 91 years old. Barbara is survived by her two grandsons, Ryan Zash of Aptos, Ca and Curtis Roan Blouin of Petaluma, Ca. as well as her sister Dorothy O'Connor of Hopedale. Barbara was born in Worchester Massachusetts and spent the formative years of her life in the town of Hopedale. After graduating from high school Barbara moved to Boston where she met her future husband while showing her roommate's younger brother around the town, after the tour of the town they knew that they would be married. Barbara and Curtis T. Spence were married on April 14, 1943, giving birth to two daughters, Ann Marie Spence and Jane Dorothy Spence. During their life together Mr. and Mrs. Spence lived all over the United States and even spent several years living on the Army base in Stuttgart Germany where Barbara's husband served as Chaplain. For many of these years Barbara worked not only as a mother and Chaplain's wife but also as secretary and administrator for the military, IRS and Social Security. After her husband's passing Barbara moved to California to be close to her daughters and grandchildren. Barbara will be laid to rest along side her parents and daughters in Hopedale Village Cemetery. There will be a small private memorial held for family and close friends at a later date.
