Mrs. Jean F. (Gallagher) Neal, 85, of Hopedale MA died peacefully on Thursday evening (November 14, 2013) after a brief stay at Genesis Healthcare of Milford. For sixty-one years she was the devoted and loving wife of the late John A. Neal, who died in 2010. Jean was born in Milford, the daughter of the late John H. and the late Marion A. (Dalrymple) Gallagher. She grew up in Milford, attended St. Marys Grammar School and graduated from St. Marys High School in 1945. She was employed by the former New England Telephone Company for over ten years. John and Jean moved to Hopedale in 1952. In their later years, they spent over twenty years wintering in Vero Beach, FL. Jean was an avid golfer who enjoyed playing on the Ladies Leagues at both the Hopedale Country Club and Dodger Pines Country Club. She also enjoyed playing competitively in The Worcester County Womens Golf League. She was a communicant of both Sacred Heart Church in Hopedale and St. Helens Church in Vero Beach FL. Jean is survived by her two beloved daughters: Mary M., wife of Charles H. Stott of Medway MA and Patricia J. Cuff of Grafton MA; Jean was the proud grandmother of John B. Stott, and his wife Kimberly of West Hartford CT, Jessica N. Stott of Westborough MA, Michael J. Cuff of Northbridge MA and Courtney J. Cuff of Grafton MA; also several cousins, nieces and nephews. Jean is also survived by her sister, Mary V. Norton of Milford MA and formerly of Hopedale MA. Jean was pre-deceased by her brother, John P. Gallagher, of West Palm Beach FL. Her funeral will be held Tuesday (November 19th) from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Sacred Heart Church, 187 Hopedale Street, Hopedale MA. Burial will follow in Hopedale Village Cemetery, Hopedale MA. A visiting hour will be held Tuesday morning (November 19th) from 8:30am to 9:30am, prior to her Funeral Mass.
