Robert Farquharson Jr.

Robert Joseph Farquharson, Jr., 85, of Janice Circle, Wrentham, died on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at Norwood Hospital following a brief decline in health. He was the husband of the late Marion A. (Butts) Farquharson to whom he was married on January 13, 1952 and who passed away on August 22, 2008. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on July 13, 1927, he was a son of Robert J. Farquharson, Sr. and Mary (Lynch) Farquharson. He was a longtime Wrentham resident. Mr. Farquharson proudly served with the United States Navy from his enlistment on August 17, 1944 until his honorable discharge on July 16, 1948. He was employed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a correctional officer at the former Charles Street Jail in Boston and later at what is now the Massachusetts Correctional Institute | Cedar Junction in Walpole for a total of 27 years prior to his retirement in 1972. Mr. Farquharson was also employed at Blaisdells Package Store in Wrentham for many years; was a school bus driver for Holmes Bus Company for more than 30 years; was a Sheriff in the Norfolk County Sheriffs Department and served as an auxiliary police and Special Forces officer for the Town of Wrentham Police Department. He was a communicant of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, Wrentham. Mr. Farquharson devoted much of his time to the Wrentham community and served on the Board of Selectman from 1980 | 1992; was a member of the Wrentham Board of Health for several years; was a Board Member of the Friends of the Fiske Public Library, Inc.; served on the Board of Trustees of the Norfolk County Agricultural High School in Walpole and was appointed by Governor Edward J. King to serve a four year term on the Board of Trustees of the former Wrentham State Hospital, now Wrentham Developmental Center. He enjoyed reading, following local, state and national politics, visiting with friends at the Wrentham Senior Center and was a fan of the New England Patriots. He leaves four sons: Robert J. Farquharson, III. and his wife, Susan (Gaskill) Farquharson, of Norton; Steven Farquharson and his wife, Basilia (Mota) Farquharson, of North Attleboro; Paul Farquharson and his wife, Joan (Carey) Farquharson, of North Attleboro; Gary Farquharson of Wrentham; a daughter: Kelly Munro and her husband, Ron Munro, of Franklin; eleven grandchildren: Scott Farquharson, Ashley Farquharson, Lisa Cambra, David Farquharson, Matt Farquharson, Catherine Farquharson, Josh Farquharson, Daniel Farquharson, Michael Farquharson, Jean Uttero and Marissa McCabe; two great grandchildren: Jolie Farquharson and Calvin Cambra; a brother: Donald Farquharson of Bridgewater; three sisters: Dolly Farquharson of Dorchester; Mary Borstel of Wakefield and Agnes Smith of Quincy; several nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends. He was the beloved father of the late Jean Farquharson who died in 1984 and was the brother of the late Joseph Farquharson. Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside funeral service with military honors on Friday, November 2, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Wrentham Centre Cemetery.
