Thomas J. Swindells, 83, of Franklin, died peacefully, with family at his side, Friday June 8, 2018 at Norwood Hospital, following an illness. He was the husband of the late Dianne E. (King) Swindells, who died in 1998. Born in Brooklyn, New York, a son of the late Sidney S. and Jeannette B. (Shalcross) Swindells, he was a former resident of South Kingstown, Rhode Island, and Quincy before moving to Franklin in 1975. He was raised in Rhode Island, was a graduate of Quincy High School, and then continued his education at the University of Massachusetts and received his certificate in banking & finance from the University of New Hampshire. He was the manager of the former Hancock Bank in Dedham Square and retired as Vice President of commercial lending for Fleet Bank, now Bank of America. A proud American, he served in the United States Army, he attained the rank of PFC and was honorably discharged in January 1959. Tom was a true New York Yankees fan, and enjoyed collecting model trains, hunting, the outdoors; he was also a Civil War buff and a New England Patriots fan. One of Toms favorite pastimes was eating, he loved to eat, whether it was at home, a family outing or a restaurant with a good buffet. He was a life member of the Nipmuc Rod & Gun Club, a member of the National Rifle Association, a former member of the Walpole Sportsman Club. Tom is survived by his sons, Paul A. Swindells and his wife Amy Enright of Bellingham and Richard S. Swindells and his wife Elaine of Franklin, a sister, Shirley Gardiner of Greensboro, NC, his grand children, Courtney Swindells, Jacqulyn Gobin, Ross Gobin, his great grandchildren, Cassidy Cofske, Ophelia Gobin and Axl Gobin. He was the brother of the late Samuel Swindells and Virginia Sexton. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Friday June 15th at 10AM in the Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. Interment with military honors will follow at St. Marys Cemetery, Franklin. Calling hours are Thursday from 4-8PM.
