Thomas A. Rizzi, 81, of Milford, MA., died Saturday evening (November 9, 2013) at the Kindred Healthcare Center in Westborough, MA., after a period of declining health. He was the husband of the late Marlene L. (Seaman) Rizzi who died in 2008. He was born in Milford, MA., the son of the late Simplice and the late Angelina (Bonetta) Rizzi and was a life-long Milford resident. Mr. Rizzi attended the former Plains elementary school, the Stacy Jr. High School, and graduated from Milford High School in 1949. He was an avid football player having quarterbacked the Milford High School team in 1949 and played for the semi-pro team, the Milford Trojans. He was an avid hockey player and coach as well as being an avid scuba diver, fisherman, hunter, and bocce player. He had owned and operated the former Book & Platter Shoppe in Milford from 1967 to 1984 and the TR Book Service. He had previously been employed at the Cosmo and Mordern Book Distributors as well as the A. A. Book Distributors and Simon & Shuster Publishers. He was a Korean War US Army veteran and was a member of the Italian-American Veterans Post in Milford and played in various bocce leagues as well as the Hoboken Citizens Club. He also belonged to the Mens Group No Name Club from childhood to the present. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church and had been a CCD teacher and an altar server. He is survived by (1) daughter, Andrea L. Rizzi Occhionero, owner of Unique and Elegant Events by Andrea and her husband, Mark A. Occhionero of Milford, MA.; (1) sister-in-law, Carol Portors and her husband, Richard, of Haverhill, MA.; (1) brother-in-law, Raymond Seaman of Seabrook, NH.; several cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was the brother of the late Louis Sim Rizzi of Framingham, MA. and the late Anna (Rizzi) Delfanti of Milford, MA. His funeral will be held on Friday morning (November 15) at 9AM from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home 44 Congress Street Milford, MA. (please visit www.edwardsmemorialfuneralhome.com for condolence book) followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church (Upper Church) 7 East Main Street Milford, MA. Burial with military honors will follow in the parish cemetery on Medway Road (Rte. 109.) Milford, MA. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday (November 14) from 4PM-7PM.
