Miss Rita M. Lucier, 93, of Whitinsville MA and formerly of Upton MA and Queens Village NY and Milford MA, passed peacefully to the higher life on Thursday (February 20, 2014) at St. Camillus Health Center in Whitinsville MA after a period of declining health. Miss Lucier was born in Milford MA the eldest daughter of the late George P. and the late Laura A. (Viens) Lucier. She was a graduate of the former St. Marys Catholic High School in Milford, Class of 1937. She was also a graduate of Cambridge University. She was a WW II US Navy veteran serving as a WAVE and was honorably discharged in 1945. Following the war she furthered her studies and in the early 1950s moved to Queens Village in New York City and accepted a position with Sperry Rand Corporation where she was employed until her retirement in 1984. She retired from Sperry Rand Corporation to Upton MA and resided happily for many years at Milhaus Apartments. In later years Rita resided at Draper Place in Hopedale MA and over the last few years at St. Camillus Health Center in Northbridge MA. She was a member of the former Holy Angels Parish in Upton MA for many years and a weekly contributor to the food pantry. She is survived by her sister: Jeannette O. Allegrezza, wife of the late Aldo Allegrezza of Milford MA; her brother: Richard V. Lucier and his wife Marie of Mashpee MA. She was the sister-in-law of Virginia Lucier of Hopedale MA, wife of the late Paul L. Lucier. Also many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. She was the sister of the late Omer F. Lucier, the late Ella G. Lucier and the late Dorothy J. Thomson. Her dearest and devoted friend, Marianne Cusmano of Mineola NY, recently passed away also. Her funeral, with Military Honors, will be held Monday (February 24th) from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 NOON in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 19 Winter Street, Milford MA. Burial will follow in North Purchase Cemetery in Milford MA. A visiting hour will be held Monday (Feb 24th) from 10:30am to 11:30am, prior to her Funeral Mass.
