William E. Hackenson, 89, of Mendon passed away Wed. April 16, 2014 in Countryside Health Care Center, Milford. He was the husband of Frances E. (Cichanowicz) Hackenson. Mr. Hackenson had managed the milk processing at the former Lowells Dairy in Mendon for many years. Later, he was a boat mechanic for Jesse White in Mendon and had also worked in the Mendon Public Schools. He was a member of St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish in Upton and the former St. Michaels Church in Mendon. William was born on July 28, 1924 in Milford, the son of the late Albert and Grace (Taft) Hackenson, and attended the Mendon school system. Bill was an avid skater and swimmer. In later years he liked to work in his garden. A veteran of WWII, he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Douglas L. Howard and also served in the U.S. Naval Reserves until 1961. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a past member of the Mendon Brothers of the Brush. In addition to his wife of 67 years, Frances, he is survived by his children; Donna M. and her husband Russell Peter of Alexandria, VA, Diane B. and her husband James Grant of Mendon, and William B. and his wife Elizabeth Hackenson of Great Falls, VA; a brother Thomas and his wife Dorothy Hackenson of Mendon; 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Hackenson. Visiting hours will be held Mon. April 21, 2014 from 5-7 PM in the BUMA-SARGEANT FUNERAL HOME, 42 Congress St., Milford. Funeral service will be Tues. April 22, 2014 at 9 AM from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 AM in St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish, 151 Mendon St., Upton.
