Daniel H. Danny Lyons 87, of Naples, and a native and former longtime resident of Franklin, MA, died peacefully, Saturday July 26, 2014 at Avow Hospice in Naples. He was the beloved husband of Barbara M. (Palladino) Lyons for 68 years. Born in Franklin, February 24, 1927 a son of the late Harry R. and Margaret R. (McLaughlin) Lyons, he was raised and educated in Franklin, and was a 1945 graduate of Franklin High School. He was an outstanding athlete in school, and played baseball and basketball under the legendary coaches of Tony Pisini and Henri Beane. He also played semi pro baseball for the former Bennys Oilers team. Danny retired to Naples 21 years ago after having worked for many years for the Bird Machine Company as a service engineer. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was stationed in Central Europe, and was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal, and the WW II Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged in August of 1947. Danny loved the game of golf; he began playing it as a youngster and continued well into his 80s. For many years, he was a starter at the Glades Country Club in Naples. He also repaired and reconditioned golfing equipment for his many friends and neighbors. Surviving in addition to his wife are his two children; Daniel P. Lyons and his wife Mary of Franklin, MA, & Susan A. Fraher and her husband Mark of Auburn, NH, a brother Harry R. Lyons and his wife Joan of Milton, MA, 2 sisters; Jean L. Knight and her husband Lyle of Rockledge, FL, and Mary Elizabeth Ranieri and her husband Donald G. Ranieri of Franklin, MA, 4 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. He is also the brother of the late Ray and James Lyons, Helen Colbath, Stella L. Meier, Margaret Tulis and Anne Ravinski. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral with military honors Thursday July 31st, at 11:15AM from the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. FRANKLIN, with a funeral Mass in St. Marys Church 1 Church Sq. at 12 PM. His interment will be held privately. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4-8PM.
