LUCY - Memorial services for Donald "Don" Lewis Sherrill, 68, of Lucy, will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8 at Lucy Baptist Church. Visitation will follow the service in the church fellowship hall. Pastor David Lawrence will officiate the service. Assisting will be Allen Barganier and James Smithmire.

Mr. Sherrill died in his home in Lucy on Sept. 15 after a battle with cancer. His body was donated to Genesis Medical Education and Research Institute for medical research. His ashes will be spread about his property in Heber Springs, Ark.

Born Dec. 15, 1947, he was a 1965 graduate of Millington Central High School. He served two years in the U.S. Army in 1965-67 in Germany in the Pershing Missile Program. He was employed for 20 years as a truck driver for H.B. Phillips, a contractor for the U.S. Postal Service. His route was between Memphis and Louisiana. A member of Lucy Baptist Church, his hobbies included spending time on his property in Heber Springs, Ark., working on old vehicles and visiting friends in the "Tree Parlor".

Survivors include his mother, Geraldine Tanner Sherrill of Lucy; his wife of 11 years, Nancy Craig Sherrill of Lucy; a son, Brian Sherrill of Lucy; a daughter, Karen Sherrill Torkell of Atoka; four sisters, Sandra (John) Mosley of Jessup, Ga., Dr. Beth Sherrill (Steve McDaniel) of Knoxville, Tenn., Anita (Danny) Owens of Trenton, Tenn., and Angela (Jim) Patrick of Orange Grove, Fla.; three step-children; six step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one great step-grandchild.

He was proceeded in death by his father, Lewis M. Sherrill of Randolph.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the , any event in any community or his favorite charity, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
