SPELMAN, H. NOYES It is with profound sadness that we mourn the passing of H. Noyes Spelman, who died peacefully on October 7, 2013. Born November 12, 1922, Spelman attended Deerfield Academy and Kenyon College. He served in the US Marine Corps (6th Marine Division) during World War II, in Guadalcanal, Okinawa, and Guam. He was present in Tsingtao, China for the purpose of accepting the surrender of the Japanese troops. He is predeceased by Frances M. Spelman, his wife of 53 years, and is survived by his two daughters, Anne Spelman (Peter) of Fairfield and Kate Burroughs (Peter) of Pittsburgh, PA, and three grandchildren, Daniel S. Jones (Karen) of Pawling, NY, Lauren Burroughs of Boston, MA, and Jeffrey Burroughs of Pittsburgh, PA. He is survived by stepfamily, Carol Terhune of Norwalk, granddaughter Elizabeth Terhune Fuller of Stamford and grandson James Sullivan Terhune (Marnie) of Waterville, ME; his great-grandchildren Jessica Thomas, Kevin Fuller; John and Henry Terhune. Also predeceased by his sisters, Carolyn and Dorothy, his brother James and his stepson, Phillips G. Terhune; survived by his sister, Mary Vincent of Punta Gorda, FL, loving nieces, nephews, and a host of long-time friends. Noyes was the patriarch of the family with a quiet strength and sharp intellect. He will be missed by many and cherished always. A memorial service will be held at 11am on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at the Greenfield Hill Congregational Church. Private service of committal.
