LYNCH JR., ROBERT J. On the morning of Wednesday, August 21, after a nearly three year battle with pancreatic cancer, Robert John Lynch Jr. (Bob) died at the age of 64 in his Westport home under the light of a full moon. Born in Boston, Massachusetts to the late Robert and Doris Lynch, Bob remained a passionate Red Sox fan all of his life. He will be missed dearly by his beautiful and loving wife of 37 years, Maureen, their son Bob, who lives in Spain with his fianc, Tory, their daughter Kelly Houff,, who lives in Virginia with her husband, Jeff, and their three year old son, Liam, to whom he was affectionately known as "Papi". He was a selfless family man who always put his loved ones before himself. Bob was the oldest of six children and is survived by his siblings, Jane Shilalie and her husband Bob, Kathy Meinelt and her husband Terry, Steve Lynch and his wife Barbara, Mary Jo Sharkey and her husband Jim, and John Lynch and his wife Mimi, all of the greater Boston area. He was "Uncle Bob" to 21 nieces and nephews, who all laughed at his jokes, despite hearing the same ones over and over. Bob worked in Finance for over 35 years, notably at Citibank, US Trust, and Barclays, finally retiring, for the third time, just four months before he was diagnosed with cancer. He was the mentor and friend to countless colleagues throughout the years and always set an example of hard work, fairness, and integrity. Bob was a human encyclopedia of sports trivia, lover of nature, and the rare combination of both a Republican and Francophile. His determination to fight off his disease inspired everyone around him and he is the unofficial World Record holder for the most pull-ups ever done by a man in his 60's after 58 chemotherapy treatments. A memorial service will be held at Assumption Church, 98 Riverside Avenue in Westport, CT on Wednesday, August 28 at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive visitors at Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home, 5 East Wall Street, on Tuesday, August 27 from 4-8PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the 100 for Bob charity drive at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
