Bobby Gene Balentine
August 12, 1936- June 18, 2013
Bob was born in Howe, Oklahoma on August 12, 1936 to Harvey and Myrtle Balentine, the youngest son of their seven children. As a child, Bob moved with his family to Central California. He grew up with spirited siblings who taught him to have fun and love Elvis Presley. In 1955, Bob met his beautiful future bride Judy Bridgford. Bob and Judy were married in 1957. Together they had five children who kept him very busy with coaching baseball, being a band parent, teaching auto mechanics, racing stock cars, and mentoring them.
Bob had a full career that took him many places, meeting some wonderful people, as a salesman for Bridgford Foods, RPC Vending, and Snowden Enterprises, and his most enjoyable job as security supervisor for Hilton Corporation. Bob also served his community beginning in 1963 as a Modesto Police Department, Reserve Police Officer, and leaving with many memories as Reserve Captain in 1977.
Bob leaves behind his children Bobby, Richard, Gene, Kimberly Garcia, and Shelly Castillo; grandchildren Eric, Jessica, Marcus, Nathaniel, Austin and Andrew; and five great-grandchildren; his sisters, Eunice Swanson, Thelma Clayton, and Ruby Mayfield.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife Judy, parents Harvey and Myrtle Balentine, sister Martha Hickman, and brothers Roy and Everett Balentine.
The pride and love Bob had for his family showed in his devotion to them. He would never miss a chance to share stories with and about his grandchildren. Although family and friends found it hard to say earthly goodbyes to Bob, he expressed in his last days his eagerness and joy to be welcomed by the Lord and see again his loving wife and late family members.
The family expresses gratitude to Pastor Joel Richards. The family would also like to thank the Community Hospice staff for their caring guidance and support and the La Loma Grace Brethren Church.
A memorial service will be held on June 29, 2013; 10 am, at the La Loma Grace Brethren Church, 1315 La Loma Ave, Modesto, 95354.
