Joseph Prezel

Joe passed away due to natural causes at Memorial Hospital in Modesto on the evening of May 7, 2013.
Joe was born to Joseph and Agatha Prezel in Helper, Utah. He enjoyed all sports, but excelled in basketball, and was a guard on the Price HS basketball team, even going to the Utah State Championship one year. Joe spent one year at Price Junior College in Utah and then enlisted in the US Army Air Corps during WWII. Joe served in the Philippines and when the war ended he returned home on a very large flat-bottom landing craft. Joe was sea-sick for the entire crossing of the Pacific and always shied away from any kind of boat ride for as long as he lived.
Joe was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 32 years, belonged to the Oakdale Methodist Church, Oakdale Masonic Lodge and the Oakdale Order of the Eastern Star. Joe loved the Big Bands, ball room dancing, polka festivals and belonged to the Forever Young Dance Club.
Joe loved to travel with his wife Mary, traveling all over the US. They were also able to visit Slovenia, where his father was born, meeting many of his first cousins and other relatives.
Joe is survived by Mary, his wife of forty years, his daughter Patricia of Sacramento, his two sons Jeffrey of Sacramento and Brian of Placerville, and sister Irene Lopez of Navato. Joe was preceded in death by his son Gregory, and by brothers Ernest and William.
He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Joe and Mary have lived in Oakdale for 36 years.
There will be a Celebration of Life on May 25, 3:00 P. M.. in the afternoon at the United Methodist Church in Oakdale.
