Cripe, Carl - Modesto
Carl E. Cripe Apr 3, 1933 - Aug 18, 2016 After a long battle with Parkinson's disease, Carl Cripe went peacefully to see his Lord and Savior on August 18, 2016. Carl was born in 1933 to a family which included 11 brothers and sisters. During the early part of his life he lived in central California. His parents, John and Mary, valued faith, family and education. Carl served for two years (1956-1958) in the US army as a Personnel Specialist. On August 17, 1957 he married Marjorie Diekrager of Winona, Minnesota. They shared 59 years of marriage, a devout Christian faith and 3 loving children: Paul, Kevin and Ruth. They were all at his side when the Lord called him home. Carl was a man who loved learning as evidenced by his earning a Phd. in Chemistry and a Masters of Divinity. Although he was primarily a Chemistry professor, he was a licensed medical technologist who enjoyed working in hospitals. He also was a licensed minister who had the privilege of marrying all three of his children. In this capacity he loved to visit nursing homes, prisons, and anyone who needed love, care and encouragement. He brought God's love to people in a unique way. As busy as he was with the above pursuits, his family always came first. He always had time for his children. Almost without fail he would lay his hands on each of their heads every night and pray for them, tell Bible stories to them and sing songs to them. His wife, Marjorie, was the joy and love of his life. They met in a unique way; he from California and she from Minnesota. She was his sunshine and often he would sing "You Are My Sunshine" to her. Their greatest enjoyment in life was the privilege God gave them of raising three beautiful children. Having fun together as a family was a top priority whether it was traveling in the Roll Along camper, going to chess tournaments, to Giant's games, to their cabin in the mountains or just playing cards or scrabble around the kitchen table. When the children became adults, Carl accepted an offer to do research in Germany at the Hanover Medical school. It was then that a love of travel was born, and Carl and Marjorie traveled to many countries and places making so many wonderful friends along the way. And always they were thrilled to return to not just three children but a growing number of grandchildren and even great-grandchildren. Carl loved the role of Coppa (grandpa) and great-Coppa, and he continued the tradition of singing songs, telling stories (as only he could) and playing games with them. He delighted in the uniqueness of each child and in watching them grow and mature. During the last three years of life, Carl and Marjorie were able to spend their days together reflecting and reminiscing at their "home away from home" - Pacifica Senior Living. They had all day to sing God's praises for bringing them together, keeping them together and blessing them with the things in life that were most important to them: Jesus, family and friends. Before they were married, Carl and Marjorie, together, chose Psalm 34:3 "Oh magnify the Lord with me and let us exalt His name together" as the blueprint for their life together. This remained their desire throughout their life. All praise be to Jesus – our Savior and Lord! Carl is survived by his wife Marjorie, his children Paul Cripe (Bobbi) of Modesto, Kevin Cripe of Modesto and Ruth (Todd Meinen) of Carmel, Indiana. He is survived by 7 grandchildren Stephanie (Eddie Vergara), Jenna (Dan Coe), Jose Cripe (Aracely), Kevin Cripe Jr. , David Meinen, Alejandra Cripe, and Dana Meinen and 2 great grandchildren Julian Cripe and Ana Lucia Vergara. He is also survived by siblings Charlotte Peck, Esther Douglas, Erma Wolf, Richard Cripe, Dorothy Cypert, and Donald Cripe. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Mary Cripe and siblings Mary Cripe, John Cripe, George Cripe, and Earl Cripe. The family would like to thank the staff of Pacifica Senior Living for the wonderful care Carl received during his time there. The Visitation is at Lakewood Funeral Home on Friday, August 26, 2016 from 4 pm to 8 p.m. The Funeral will be at La Loma Grace Brethern Church on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 10:30 am with graveside service at Lakewood Cemetery immediately following. www.cvobituaries.com
