Obituaries from Two Days Ago

Ferrel, June - Lindon
JUNE NORTON FERREL JUNE 6, 1914 - MAY 16, 2016 June Norton Ferrel was born in Lincoln, Idaho on June 6, 1914 and was the oldest of eight children. Her family moved to California when she was nine years old. A few months after moving to California, their home at Don Pedro Dam, where her father was employed caught fire. June's baby brother died as a result of severe burns and June was also burned trying to rescue him. Her mother ran into the house trying to rescue both June and her little brother at the risk of her own life and was also severely burned. The family suffered many trials brought on by the tragedy, but were blessed with a special closeness to one another because of it. June said, "I was raised in a home of great love and acceptance." The family moved to Modesto, California after the fire, where June attended high school and Modesto Junior College. She later attended Cal State University Stanislaus after her family was raised. She met her future husband, Rex Warne Ferrel during her senior year in high school. He had recently graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a degree in electrical engineering. They were married after June had completed her first year of college. Rex was converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple one year later. June and Rex lived in the mountains for several years while he was employed by Turlock Irrigation District at Don Pedro Dam which included a free home and utilities. They were able to save enough money by working and panning for gold to buy 40 acres of land near Denair, California and to buy a new car. They developed the land into an almond orchard and also Ferrel Fish Farm. After moving to Denair, June taught early morning seminary for seventeen years, served as Stake Young Women's President, and was very active with the youth, serving in many capacities. She was an invaluable asset to Rex as he taught math at Turlock High School for over twenty years and as he also served many years in leadership positions including bishop of the original Turlock Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and later as bishop of the Twin Falls 2nd Ward in Idaho. Rex and June served several full time missions working with the Spanish and hearing–impaired communities. Upon retiring, they moved to twin Falls, Idaho to live near their daughter Rexine Glenn and her family. Two months after celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary in 1993, Rex passed away, leaving June a widow for twenty three years. June has been living in Lindon, Utah with Rexine and her husband, Jim Glenn for the past 20 years. Rexine lost her husband on August 1, 2013. Since that time June and her daughter have been "Treasured Companions" for the past three years and June felt those three years were a crowning joy of her life. She was called to serve as an advisor in the Young Women's organization of her Lindon ward at the age of 98 and continued to teach her precious girls until just weeks before her passing. Her testimony of the Savior and his gospel of love will be missed. June passed away peacefully on May 16, 2016 just three weeks short of her 102nd birthday. She is survived by her daughter Rexine Glenn and son David W. Ferrel and his wife Laurel. She has 12 grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren. She is also survived by two living brothers, Victor and Garth Norton and many nieces and nephews. Interment will be in the Lakewood Memorial Park Cemetery, Hughson, California, Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.olpinmortuary.com . www.cvobituaries.com
