Adkins, Stanley D.
STANLEY D. ADKINS FEBRUARY 27, 1921 ~ MARCH 23, 2016 Stan was born in the village of Yeager, OK. He was of Irish and Creek Indian descent. At age 15 he went to live with his grandmother Moore in Portland, OR, to complete his education. He graduated from Benson Polytechnic as an apprentice machinist. Stan's family came West in 1937 and was a migrant family in Riverbank for a short time, having been driven from their homestead by the "dust bowl." Stan served in WWII in a Mobile Tank Recovery Unit and in the 75th Infantry Division. He felt his greatest contribution to the war was laying out the templates for the hedgerow cutters that were attached to the tanks. As a result, the "St. Lo, France Breakout" hastened the end of the war. In 1954, Stan graduated from Cal Poly, SLO, in Mechanical Engineering and spent his career with FMC/Barium operation in Modesto. He was a prolific reader, especially scientific materials and Louis L'Amour westerns. He had a deep appreciation for this Valley and it's opportunities. His services (past & present) included: 61 years as a member of the Modesto Engineers Club, American Legion Post 74, Voiture 653 of the Forty&Eight, VFW Post 3199, Hart-Ransom School Board, Old Fisherman's Club and Elks Lodge. Stan is survived by his wife, Fran, of 68 years, daughter Susan Adkins & sister Genny Braden, both of Modesto, brother Wayne Adkins of Jacksonville, FL, grandson Chanse Franco of Merced. He was preceded in death by son Steven Adkins, parents Ira & Iva Adkins, sister Shirley Alexander. Memorial services April 30th, 11:00am, Modesto Church of the Brethren, 2301 Woodland Ave. The family wishes to thank Community Hospice and his angel caregiver, Elizabeth Musser for his excellent care. Remembrances may be made to Community Hospice, 4368 Spyres Way, Modesto 95356 or Modesto Church of the Brethren, Memorial Fund, 2301 Woodland Ave., Modesto, CA 95358. www.cvobituaries.com

Agrella, Carolyn - Modesto
Carolyn Nobles Agrella Sept 18, 1937 - April 18, 2016 Carolyn Agrella, 78, of Modesto, CA unexpectedly went to be with the Lord, on April 18, 2016. Carolyn was born on September 18, 1937, in Monahans, Texas to Henry and Connie (Hendricks) Nobles. She married Gordon, her high school sweetheart, on June 9, 1956. They were married just shy of 60 years and lived together in Fremont and Ben Lomond before relocating to Modesto to be near their children and grandchildren. Carolyn's faith and love for her Savior was the guiding force of her life. She was loving, kind spirited, giving and was filled with a special tenderness for others that was not diminished by her resolve to speak the truth. Whenever she reached out to others it was genuine with a warm smile, a hug, or conversation—always making those she encountered feel special. The love that filled Carolyn was strong. She was a woman who very clearly chose to regard the needs of others more highly than her own. She loved unconditionally; she gave and served quietly in the background. All that she did in nurturing, serving, and loving others was pure and authentic. She never served for recognition or for the eyes of man. She was a caring and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Carolyn is survived by her husband, Gordon, two children: Karen Delgado (John); and Greg Agrella (Laurie). She is also survived by seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A celebration of life ceremony will be held Friday, April 22nd at 11:00 AM at Big Valley Grace.  www.cvobituaries.com
