Frank "Ira" Denny

FRANK IRA DENNY
NOVEMBER 19, 1920 - DECEMBER 20, 2013
Frank Denny, age 93, was born in Worland, WY, to the parents of now deceased Ira and Rose Denny. Frank was the youngest of five children, two brothers, Jim and Harry, and two sisters, Ruth and Dorothy, all deceased. His earliest memory of childhood was when "the house caught on fire, and the fireman picked him up from his crib."
After graduating from high school, Frank had bigger plans and enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 18. Frank served in the Army during World War II and the Korean War. During his years in service, he met Helen Sullivan in San Francisco, and they married on May 26, 1943. Helen remained in San Francisco, as Frank returned to Alaska, where he was stationed.
Serving as a Chief Warrant Officer in the Army, little did Frank know how important calculating numbers would be as a part of his career. His unit  contacted tuberculosis which brought him and Helen to Denver, CO, as Frank received convalescent care at Fitzgerald Army Hospital. During this time, Frank received his B.A. in accounting from the University of Denver.
The call to return to the Bay Area was strong, as Frank and Helen moved to Belmont, CA, where Frank began working for Pan American Airlines as an accountant, and to be begin their family. Frank received his Masters Degree from University of California at Berkeley in accounting and business. Dad did it all: worked full-time, attended Cal, studied, while raising a family with Mom; he had a strong work-ethic.
In 1954, they decided to take a drive to Modesto, where they made Modesto their home. Dad began his CPA practice on 13th Street for 23 years. Dad did not retire at that time, and worked as a controller for a new Modesto bank until 1981. He also taught an accounting class at CSU Stanislaus for a few years.
Frank and Helen enjoyed traveling to numerous places: Hawaii, Mexico, Europe, Asia, Australia, and countless trips to Worland in Frank's Cessna plane, as he was proud to be a pilot. They also enjoyed many years at their cabin at The Dardanelles.
Frank enjoyed volunteering at many civic events professionally as a CPA, SIRS, was a charter member of the SOS Club, played tennis and snow-skied, but his passion for golf was the strongest in his 60's and into his 80's.
Frank was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Helen, and son, Mark. Surviving children are Kathy Solas (Joe) of Las Vegas, NV, Frank Jr. Denny (Sharon), Mike Denny (Trudy), Victoria Constable (Keith), all of Modesto, and Gini Asai (Wes), of Turlock. He also leaves behind fourteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Dad's legacy will continue on, and will solely be missed by his children and the community.
Services will be held on Monday, January 6, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church on 709 J St., Modesto, CA.
Donations can be made in Ira Denny's memory to The Disabled Amercian Veterans (DAV).
