Harold "Hal" Eugene Mulnix
February 1924 ~ August 2013
Hal Mulnix passed suddenly on Tuesday, August 20, 2013. He is survived by his son, Douglas Mulnix, his grandchildren: Kirsten Scheele, Paul Scheele (in-law), David Mulnix, Carolyn Mulnix (in-law), Kathleen Mulnix, Genevieve Kusnell, and Chris Kusnell (in-law). He had seven great-grandchildren: Kiera Scheele, Loralei Scheele, Tom Scheele, Brittaney Raine, Raegan Kusnell, Lauryn Kusnell, and Charlotte Kusnell. Also still living are his sister, Silva Wilson, his sister-in-law, Marlene Mulnix, his sister-in-law Patricia Rogers, and his brother-in-law, Dan Rogers.
After graduating from high school in '42, Hal joined the Navy and proudly served in the submarine service, Pacific theater. He married Elizabeth Jane Del Castillo in 1945 and they were together for 65 years until her passing. During that time they lost three sons, but their love and faith kept them together. He was a man of steadfast convictions. He worked for Van Gas Propane Company for 20 years before returning to school to become a teacher. He taught for 17 years at the Chatom Elementary School where he was loved and admired by peers and students alike. There he won the Golden Bell Award for Teaching Excellence. He retired in 1988. He was a member of: The Ceres Twisters, Wahoo Submarine Veterans, Caremore Nifty Fifty Workout group, Perko's 'Breakfast Club', and R.O.M.E.O (Retired Old Men Eating Out). An avid golfer and dancer, he truly enjoyed life. He loved his family, friends, neighbors, and a good joke. Quick to smile, slow to anger, he was a gentleman of the first order.
Visitation will be at Allen Mortuary on Monday, Aug. 26th from 3 to 7 pm. Funeral will be at First United Methodist Church of Modesto, 850-16th Street. Burial will be at 1 pm at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, Santa Nella CA. In lieu of flowers, send donations to the Stanislaus Literacy Center, 893 Lander Ave, Turlock CA 95380.
