Paul J. Erickson
August 1924 ~ October 2013
Paul J. Erickson, 89, of Turlock, CA, went home to be with the Lord on October 29, 2013 after a short illness.
Paul was born in Whitehall, Wisconsin on August 25, 1924. He attended high school in Glenwood City, WI and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from The Stout Institute in Menomonie, WI. Paul married his childhood sweetheart, Shirley Mae Uber, in Wisconsin in 1946. They relocated to Boise, Idaho and ultimately settled in Sacramento where both were high school teachers
. Paul went on to earn a MA degree in education from California State University, Sacramento in 1957. He retired from Sacramento City Unified School District where he taught Industrial Arts for 38 years. Shirley passed away in 1998. Paul was then blessed to be married to Jean Bernd Edwards from 1999 until his death. They lived in Woodside, CA before moving to Covenant Village of Turlock in 2000 where Paul led the Resident Council and was an active volunteer.
Paul was Honorably Discharged from the Army in 1945 after serving in Europe during WWII
in Company B, 36th Armored Infantry. He was a member of Epsilon Phi Tau, National Education Association, California Teachers Association, an Honorary Life Member of the PTA, and was named California Industrial and Technology Education Association's Outstanding Man of the Year in 1987.
Paul loved spending time with family and friends, and enjoyed travel, Big Band and classical music, theater, and woodworking. He was a kind and gentle man who tirelessly gave of himself whenever anyone needed help in any way. If there was a need to be met, a project to be tackled, or a repair to be made, he was the first to offer assistance. His generous and loving heart, and wonderful sense of humor, will be greatly missed by all of those whose lives he so deeply touched.
