Russell Gabbard
July 9, 1933 - July 21, 2013
Russell Dee (Pa) Gabbard, 80, surrounded by family and friends. went to be with his Heavenly Father July 21, 2013 in his Modesto, CA  home. He married Martha Bonnie Johns Gabbard in Woodbridge, CA on New Year's Eve 1954, and the adventures never stopped.
Awesome daddy to two daughters, Sharon (Rick) Severe, and Kathy (Dave) Fastenau. Pa to four grandchildren, LeAnne Herrera, Breanne Severe, Melissa (Mike) Snowberger, and Scott-Russell (Courtney) Fastenau, Great Pa to five great grandchildren, Austin, Hannah, Joshua, Sydney and Elise.
Born in Richmond, Kentucky to Alson and Marie (Messer) Gabbard and the oldest brother to Helen, Tony, Danny, and Louise. He is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Russell was a Korean War Veteran who served proudly in the U. S. Navy on the USS Lofberg. He retired from the Department of Defense.
Our daddy loved his family and was the epitome of a Christian man. He loved adventures and would often surprise the family with road trips that included Disneyland, camping in Calaveras Big Trees, and trips navigating about the United States. He loved people and always saw the good in them. We cannot recall anything negative ever spoken by this great man. After numerous strokes he was confined to his bed and even in that time he wanted to make sure that company was comfortable. He was the ultimate host and everyone around him marveled at his good looks and his great smile.
He will be missed as he was always our greatest supporter, but we know that one day we will be spending eternity together. He truly was a man after God's own heart.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Franklin and Downs Funeral Home. Committal with honors is scheduled for Thursday, July 25 at 12:30 pm. at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, 32053 McCabe Rd Santa Nella, CA.
