Bill Moorad, "was a good man and loving husband [to Saralee for almost 60 years] Father, Grandpa, and Leader".  Bill wrote these words to describe his own father Cyrus, yet he embodied each of them himself. William Jennings Moorad began life with hope, and the possibility of who he might become, not far from his parents Hannah and Cyrus Moorad's home in Morton Grove. Il. Recognizing that "life is the hyphen between matter and spirit" Bill squeezed every bit of life from his 86 years until finally at the end, his kidneys failed following a successful heart valve operation at Stanford Hospital. His family surrounded and lifted him with love during two weeks of post operative care, surrounding him in prayer and love when he made his final transition to eternal life.
Bill is survived by brother Calvin Moorad. Sister Grace Solomon and John "Homer" preceded him in death. Bill attended high school in Niles Township, IL and graduated from Hughson High School in 1944. Bill played football for MJC in 1944 before enlisting in the Navy during WWII from 1945 to July 1946. As a Veteran he returned to play college football and completed a BA degree in Business and Accounting from the University of Illinois in 1949. Bill continued his life long passion for all sport including football, basketball and baseball. He met his future bride Saralee Shaw at a service club carnival in 1952. Saralee and Bill married November 8, 1953 with many friends and family surrounding them at the First Christian Church in Modesto CA.  They gave birth to son Jeffrey Shawn Moorad, July 14, 1955 and adopted daughter Claudia Jean Moorad born March 27, 1960. Bill delighted in every opportunity to be with Jeff and wife Jan's three sons. Justin,  Christopher and Blake.  Claudia and husband Joel Moore married May 12, 1990 and have made their home in Portland Oregon.
Bill concluded a successful career as Director of Purchasing with E & J Gallo Winery.  He retired to work part time as a consultant for E & J Gallo Winery, friends and small business owners.   Bill was a business mentor and friend to a number of people over his life time.
He was a civic leader who worked with meet director Tom Moore to found and sustain the premier Modesto Relays Track & Field event from 1942 to 2011. He was one of the founder's of the Sportsman of Stanislaus (SOS) club. Bill was a Past Master of the Symrna Masonic Lodge of Ceres, a 32 KCCH member of San Jose Scottish Rite, and member of Electa Modesto Chapter of Eastern Star. Bill loved golf and was a member of Del Rio Country Club, and past member of the Del Rio Board of Directors. Bill was an active Rotarian in the North Modesto Rotary Club. He served the Stanislaus County Grand Jury, and was as an Assyrian language interpreter through the courts. He had a life long passion for "kicking car tires". He helped hundreds of people locate cars new and used for purchase for the joy of the process. In later years when Bill's mobility was challenged he became adept at car research online.
