LTC Mark Douglas Taylor MD NOV 17, 1962 - MARCH 20, 2004
Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) Mark Douglas Taylor, M.D. was killed in action on March 20, 2004, at the age of 41. Mark was a surgeon assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division Forward Surgical Team in Fallujah, Iraq. Born in Stockton, California on November 17, 1962, Mark had served about 18 years in the California Army National Guard and Army Reserve. He was in the process of completing his fourth year of active duty when struck down in a rocket attack launched against American troops. This occurred just days prior to the time he was scheduled for redeployment to Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He and one other soldier were killed and several others received wounds from the attack.
Mark graduated from Lincoln High School in 1980, and went on to receive his BS degree in biochemistry from the University of California at Davis. He received his Pharm D. from the University of California at San Francisco, M.D. and MPH from George Washington University of Medicine in D.C. He completed his internship in surgery at Madigan Army Medical Center at Fort Lewis Washington and went on to complete his residency in surgery at the University of California Irvine before returning to active duty with the military in 2001. He was assigned as a surgeon at Womack Army Medical Center at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, as well as the 82nd Division Forward Surgical Team.
While in Iraq during his second tour, Mark received word he had been awarded a fellowship in advanced laparoscopic surgery. For his service he received the combat medical badge, air assault, airborne, and German parachute wings, as well as decorations that include the Bronze Star, Army Commendation, and Army Achievement Medals, to name a few.
Mark is survived by his parents Robert D. Doug & Roberta Taylor of Stockton & his 6 yr old son Connor Taylor of Irvine.
Memorial services were held in Iraq and Womack Army Medical Center at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. A funeral service with full military honors will be held Friday, April 16, at 10:00am at the Central United Methodist Church, 3700 Pacific Avenue, Stockton. Internment will immediately follow at Cherokee Memorial Park, Harney Lane at Highway 99, Lodi.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 15, from 10:00am until 7:00pm at the DeYoung Shoreline Chapel, 7676 Shoreline Drive, Stockton.
Memorial contributions may be made in the name of LTC Mark D. Taylor, M.D. to the Bank of Stockton for his son, Connor's educational fund, at Post Office Box 7036, Stockton, CA 95267, or to a charity of the donor's choice.

I was assigned to 3rd Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division in 2003. After I was wounded in action in Fallujah, Iraq on October 31, 2003, MAJ Taylor performed surgery on me. Although I didn't know him well, I had two follow up appointments with him at our medical company. I am very thankful that he 'patched' me up. May he Rest In Peace.

As we grow old, you will be forever young in our memories.
Your gallantry strengthens our hearts, your achievements inspires us to persevere, and your wit keeps us smiling.
The eternal sadness and indebtedness can never be lifted but your life and legacy will be with us always. To have known you was my great fortune.

You were a great doctor and person. I often think of how much you've changed my life and the surgeries you've performed on me. Because of you my husband and I had a daughter and gave her the middle name of Taylor. Thank you, you've forever changed our lives.

Mrs. Taylor, Often I think of Mark and smile. He was our "Doc Hollywood" out here at Womack and we still talk about him fondly. I have his memorial service pamphlet on the inside of my locker door where I can be reminded of the sacrifice Mark made for his country each day. Thank you for raising such a fine, patriotic man. He lives on here at Womack in our hearts forever.

”Honor and Remember” - “Project Compassion” We love our Soldiers! We love our country and we cannot express enough love and compassion to the families of our fallen heroes. War does not discriminate – It breaks our hearts to see the faces of the fallen. We want to give this gift to the hero’s Mother, Father and/or spouse. We are a 501c3 nonprofit organization! Over 1,800 portraits have been completed and shipped to the parents and or spouse - at no cost as this is a gift from one American to another!
This is a gift! We have some wonderful sponsors who help with the costs, and only want you know that we care.
Contact us directly at [email protected] or go to www.heropaintings.com . If you have already had a portrait completed, we pray that you are enjoying the portrait and God Bless You.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

I had the honor and pleasure of working with Mark in the ICU at Womack Army Medical Center before his deployment to Iraq. He was a nurses "Doc", always responsive to the needs of his patients, and never arrogant or condescending to the nursing staff. He was one of my favorite surgeons to work with. I think of him often and of those he left behind. May God bless you and bring you comfort , surely Mark is with him.
