Doris Irene (Allen) Wallis

Doris Irene Allen, daughter of Richard Tipton Allen and Mildred Williams, was born on June 6, 1925 in Lincoln, Nebraska.  The family moved in the early 1930's to Los Angeles, California.
On October 6, 1943, she married Jack Roy Wallis in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he was stationed as a Staff Sergeant in the US Air Force. They subsequently moved to Los Angeles, California and then to the San Francisco Bay Area.  They lived in Portola Valley until 2003 when they moved to the Modesto area, where they resided together, passing their 70th wedding anniversary shortly before Doris' death on October 11, 2013 at the age of 88.
Doris was a life-long lover of music, playing violin and viola both professionally and with friends for personal enjoyment.  She particularly loved the music of Stephen Sondheim, and played with the TheaterWorks orchestra in Mountain View as well as the Livermore Symphony Orchestra for many years.
She was deeply committed to social justice and personal activism, and was involved in community affairs, serving as Girl Scout leader, business manager at the local recreation district and serving at the polls in every election for over 30 years.
After raising four children, she returned to school and graduated Magna Cum Laude from San Francisco State University in 1982 with a BA in Speech Communication with a minor in Gerontology.
Doris is survived by her husband, Jack; a sister, Wendy Allen; four children, Christine Wallis, Stan Allen Wallis, Corby Kuciemba and Lynn Love, six grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.  Her insight, sharp wit and wide-ranging intellect will be sorely missed.
