Loyd Scroggins Obituary

Loyd Ervin Scroggins
July 19, 1926 - December 19, 2014
Loyd Ervin Scroggins was born July 19, 1926, in Adair, Oklahoma and entered into heaven's gates on December 19, 2014.  Loyd was the second of nine children to William Leroy Scroggins and Ethel Laveda Robertson Scroggins.  Loyd grew up in and around Wagoner, Oklahoma.  At 17 years old he enlisted in the US Navy, serving in WWII on the aircraft carrier USS RANDOLPH from 1944-1946.  After being discharged from the Navy, he enlisted in the US Army and served from 1946-1949 spending most of that time in Korea.  In 1951 he married Virginia Ruth Hollon.  They lived and raised three children in Ceres, California.  Loyd worked for FMC in Modesto.
Loyd and Virginia were active members of Village Chapel Free Will Baptist church, Ceres, until her passing in 1994.  At that time Loyd moved back to his home state of Oklahoma.  It was there that he met his second wife, Patricia Duncan.  They were married 3 years until her passing in 2002.
In 2009, Loyd came back to California to be closer to his family.  He attended both Modesto Free Will Baptist Church and Calvary Chapel, Modesto.
Loyd was an amazing husband, dad, grandpa and great grandpa.  He taught his sons what a husband should be and his daughter what to look for in a husband.  He will leave behind a legacy of love, laughter and the importance of serving an amazing God.
Loyd leaves to mourn his passing, his son Wendell (Patti) Scroggins of Modesto, their children and grandchildren: Jennifer (Nathan) Christman, Matthew and Maiyah Christman of Modesto;  Leah (Brian) Thompson, Blake and Jase Thompson of Oakdale;  son, Olen (Heidi) Scroggins of Turlock, their children: Kevin Scroggins of Davis, Sarah and Christina Scroggins of Turlock; daughter, Glenda (James) Gunn of Modesto, their children and grandchildren: Michelle (Jared) Oller, Jacob and Samantha Oller of Modesto; Jason Gunn of Modesto.  His second wife's children, Leon (Debbie) Duncan of Berryville Arkansas, and son Ray Duncan of Berryville, Arkansas; Debbie (Danny) Foster of Rose, Oklahoma, and their children and grandchildren: Chris (Kim) Foster and son Trae Foster of Rose, Oklahoma; Corrie (Cortney) Drake and their children Sarah and Joshua Drake of Rose, Oklahoma; Susan (Mitch) Crittenden of Rose, Oklahoma, their children Holly (Jerrod) Vanderheiden and daughter Chloe Vanderheiden of Welling, Oklahoma; Brittany Crittenden of Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
He also leaves three sisters, Vena Johnson of Muskogee, Oklahoma; Irene Hays of Lavaca, Arkansas; and Margaret Kirkland of Lavaca, Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Virginia Hollon Scroggins, second wife Patricia Duncan Scroggins, granddaughter, Beth Duncan; brothers Lee Scroggins, Dickie Scroggins and Jimmie Scroggins;  sisters, Wilma Graham and May Gene Robbins.
The family would like to thank Dale Commons Assisted Living, Valley Comfort and Hospice Optimal for all their help and support during this difficult time.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Lakewood Funeral Home, Hughson, Ca.  Services will be held on December 27, 2014 at 11AM.  A reception will be held following the service.

It was always a blessing to me to hug "the other Loyd" at Seniors Bible Study. Now the two Loyds are together in heaven and we'll see them again someday. My prayers are with all the family. Words can't even express how he will be missed.

So many special memories. My life has been touched by knowing him. I imagine he has already climbed into the lap of the master and kissed the face of God. You will be missed but we indeed celebrate with you today. Can I get a strawberry shake? Two straws please.

Loyd his wife Virginia and their family have been one of God's greatest gifts to our family. No Pastor could ask for a more loving and helpful family to partner with in ministry.

Hospitality was only one of their spiritual gifts and they exercised it lovingly and freely. Their home was open to our family from the first of our ministry at Village Chapel until the time I visited with Loyd at his mobile home in Oklahoma.

Virginia and Glenda were two of the best Sunday School teachers I have ever known. Under their leadership the Children's ministry experienced much growth during my years as their pastor.

Many thanks for all the love and encouragement you the family of Loyd and Virginia Scroggins have been and are to us.
I will always be grateful for your ministry to our family and the Church.

A city on a hill cannot be hidden. The light of Christ shone through Loyd like a beacon- attracting all who knew Loyd to His Savior, Jesus Christ. The world is a little darker now that he is gone. He will be missed, but grateful for the gift of knowing we will get to see him again in heaven.
