Afa (Moore) Espinola, age 94, entered into rest on April 18, 2013 at Manteca Care and Rehabilitation Center in Manteca. She was born on April 6, 1919 in Laredo, Texas. Afa was a resident of Manteca for 60 years. She is preceded in death by her husband, Al Espinola; and her siblings, Willie Moore, Raymond Moore, Robert Moore and Rosemary Santos.
Afa is survived by her daughter, Rosie Wilson and her husband, Rick of Manteca; her granddaughter, Alicia Wilson of Manteca; her nieces, Mona Moore and Rosemarie Lopez; and her nephew Mario Santos.
Afa was a veteran of the US Women's Army Corp (WAC). She began teaching in Texas in the year 1949. She then moved to California in 1954 where she taught as an elementary school teacher for thirty years in the Manteca Unified School District. She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, where she was a member of the "Legion of Mary." Afa started the first "Junior Legion of Mary" at the church. She also taught catechism at St. Anthony's. Afa was an avid reader and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. She also had a love for animals, especially dogs.
Arrangements for Afa Espinola are under the direction of PL Fry & Son Funeral Home, 290 N. Union Road, Manteca. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 23rd at 2pm to 6pm with Rosary to follow at 6pm at PL Fry & Son Funeral Home. A Mass will be held on Wednesday, April 24th, at 11:00am at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 505 E. North Street, Manteca. Burial will be private at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, Gustine, CA.
