Arthur Nunes Obituary

ARTHUR JOSEPH NUNES APR 3, 1925 - NOV 19, 2010 Arthur Joseph Nunes, born April 3, 1925, passed away peacefully at his home on November 19. He was a loving husband of 57 years to Joann, Father to Kathy (Gordon), Cindi (Bruce), Diane (Rick) and Mimi (Jay), and Poppo'' to Elizabeth (Eli), Annie, Sara, Joey, Nick, Katie, Maddie, Emily and Abby. He enjoyed many adventures in life, and was a man of incredible strength, loyalty and workmanship. Art had many and diverse talents, and achieved great success, both personally and professionally. As a student at Modesto Junior College, he played on the school's football team, competing in the State Championship at the Rose Bowl, and later became a member of the Merchant Marines during World War II. Art was in the poultry business for 30 years, and was co-founder of Becky Eggs prior to purchasing the land for his beloved ranch, Nunes Farms. He was also the co-founder and president of West-Mark. Art was an avid pilot, often shuttling Joann and the kids to and from college and on family vacations. Some of his fondest memories were from time spent in Mexico with his family and out on his ranch in Newman. He was an incredibly devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be terribly missed--as he'd say, you did good, kid.'' Family and friends are invited to join in a celebration of Art's life on Wednesday, November 24th at noon at 3330 Wycliffe Drive, Modesto. Donations can be made to the American Lung Association at 201 Needham Avenue, Modesto, CA 95354 or online at www.lungusa.org. www.modbee.com/obituaries

Joann & family,
I was very saddened to hear of your loss. I remember Art since I was just a little girl and have nothing but the best of memories of our family times together. Dune buggies in Pismo, clamming etc. My heart and prayers go out to all of you. He was a remarkably wonderful person.

Joann and family, I was saddened to learn of the passing of another cousin. I learned a lot about Art in the obituary that I didn't know. What a great man he was. His father Manuel and my father, Frank, were brothers. There are fond memories of visiting in Modesto, seeing the chickens, and going to family reunions. Wish I could have been at the celebration of his life today. Love and prayers.
