Bertha Alicia Garza, 56, of Modesto passed away Sunday at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto.
Mrs. Garza was born in Cuidad, Mier Tamaulipas, Mexico and was a resident of the Patterson and Modesto area all her life. She worked for Stanislaus County as a Health Insurance Advocate Counselor for 22 years and attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Patterson and St Stanislaus Catholic Church in Modesto. She was a advocate for immigrants, a eucharistic Minister and taught Catechism class. She was a member of the Alter Society, YLI and enjoyed baking, collecting recipes and taking care of her family.
Mrs. Garza is survived by her husband, Alfonso Cordero of Modesto; step sons, Alfonso Cordero III of Riverbank, Alex Cordero of Modesto; brothers, Jose Luis Garza of Patterson, Jose Jaime Garza of Fresno, Jesus R. Garza of Hanford, Juan Manuel Garza and Francisco Javier Garza both of Patterson; sisters, Margarita C. Flores and Marivel Jacinto both of Patterson, Juanita Garza-Castro of Union City and 5 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Ramiro and Concepcion Garza, brother, Ramiro Garza and nephew, Edward Samarripa.
A Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, Thursday, May 16th followed by a Rosary at 7:00 pm at Hillview Funeral Chapel in Patterson. A Funeral Mass Service will be held 10:00 am, Friday May 17th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Patterson. Interment in Mexico.
