Carolyn Rossetti Obituary

CAROLYN S(NANEY) ROSSETTI OCT. 24, 1947 - SEPT. 21, 2010 A JEWEL ON EARTH......A JEWEL IN HEAVEN The spectacularly beautiful jade green eyes, the ivory white teeth and the golden hair have left us earlier than anyone thought theyever would. Carol lost a spirited 5-month battle to a fairly uncommon and aggressive form of colon cancer. She passed peacefully in her sleep in her home surrounded by family. She is survived by her husband Arthur Rossetti, her two children Jason Rossetti of Manteca and Marisa Rossetti-Thomason of Livermore, her only grandchild Amelia Rose Thomason, her brother Dale Steelman of Rancho Cordova and a host of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in death by her father Lee Naney and mother Buelah Naney. Carol was born in Salem, MO. and came to California with her parents at the age of 6 months. They settled in Escalon where she attended Dent Grammar School and Escalon High School. She was a good student, and in an era when girls were thought too delicate to play interscholastic sports showed herself to be a good athlete in the intramurals that were allowed. She was also a member of the cheer squad and was a varsity song leader. She earned an A.A. degree at Modesto Junior College before going to work at Market Wholesale in Modesto, now Bower Wholesale. Upon her marriage to Arthur in September of 1968 she moved to Hayward where her husband was finishing his studies. She had her favorite employment there working as the only office person for a small chain of movie theatres. It was their sole means of support at the time. She came back to Escalon in 1970 and resumed her job at Market Wholesale who was happy to have her back. She stayed there until the birth of her first child Jason in 1974. After that she did not work again until 1992 when she would work the grape crush at the old Petri Winery west of Escalon. Her last year there was 2002 when the winery was sold and the crushing operation was permanently shut down. Her retirement years were tending to her many pets, traveling and doting over her grandchild. She and her brother Dale spent 2-1/2 years taking care of their mother 24/7 so she wouldn't have to go in to a nursing home and could stay in her own house. Her favorite places to vacation were Pismo Beach, Disneyland and Hawaii. Her main hobby over the last 5 years of her life was her granddaughter. Life centered around Amelia and deservedly so. She also liked the arts and music, attending many concerts over the years and also many live theatre events. She truly thoughtthe Gallo Center in Modesto was a blessing because she no longer had to travel to San Francisco to see cultural events. Carol was a woman without any vices whatsoever. Her only excesses were her devotion to her children an her grandchild. Many have been as good a daughter as she was, but no one has ever been better. Many have been as good a mother as she was, but no one has ever been better. Many have been as good a grandmother as she was, but no one has ever been better. Many have been as good a wife as she was, but no one has ever been better. She did not deserve an early exit from life nor the way that it came. She exemplifies the saying only the good die young''. Services will be held Sundau. Sept 26th, 2:00 PM at Deegan Funeral Chapel in Escalon. A reception will be held at Grange Hall in Escalon afterwards. Please don't bring an entree or salad. Feel free to bring a dessert if you like. Remembrances can be made in the form of donations to the American Cancer Society specifying it go to colon & liver cancer research. Dear Rossetti Family, I knew Carolyn when we were in our 20's and we met again one day in Escalon about 10 years later. I have remembered Carolyn over these years as one of the sweetest people I ever met. At least 10 years had passed between our working together and then seeing one another and we picked right up where we left off. I can still see her smile as she caught me up on her life and what her plans were for the future. I will always hold a warm place in my heart for your Carolyn. She was indeed a sunny part of life. Sincerely, Barbara England

Best Friend for Life...Carol has given us all a role model for living life---never jealous, always tolerant, kind, and generous in her praise of others. I will always remember our many countless hours spent together in school---7 weekends in a row we had our sleepovers, complete with 6 waffles apiece and lunch at Carmen's (a #5), followed by a
Black & White sundae at Marie's. However did we eat all that??? Having met many thousands of people in the course of my career, I can tell you that Carol's character is one in a million. She will always be alive in our hearts and in our minds. I am so sorry that I can't be there for you Art in person, but I am there in spirit, believe me. Carol, I will always love you, dearest friend...

I only met Carolyn for a brief moment when our families were visiting family members at English Oaks and though it was for a quick hello she seemed every bit like a "Jewell on Earth" I have known Art for many years and I offer my deepest condolences to him and his family.

You are right, Carol was a "Jewel on Earth". I worked with Carol during her first employment with Market Wholesale Grocery Co. Carol was truly one of the sweetest people I have ever met. She was an easy person to know and to like. My heart goes out to the entire family for your loss.
