Charles M. Harris

CHARLES M. HARRIS Passed away on Monday, October 18, 2010 in Salem, Oregon at the age of 93. Born to Charles and Bertha Harris on their farm in Denair in 1917. Charlie attended Denair schools, Modesto Junior College, and UC Berkeley. After a short stint with the US Forest Service he joined the Navy in 1942, and served in the Pacific until the end of the war. In 1944, he married Frances, his high school music teacher's sister, and after his Navy tour they returned to the farm in Denair. Charlie loved the outdoors, was involved in scouting, and took his family on many (learning) vacations to Pinecrest and Yosemite. He was a longtime member of the Denair School Board, and was a strong supporter of the local FFA. He worked in the Stanislaus County Assessor's Office between 1963 and 1980, and later became a licensed appraiser of farm and ranch properties. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Frances, and his sisters, Azalea Marie and Leila. He is survived by two sons, Joel (Lynn) Harris and Kent (Marsha) Harris, one grandson, David Harris, and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held in the Riverside Chapel at Lakewood Memorial Park, 900 Santa Fe Ave., Hughson, CA on Thursday, November 11th at 2:00 p.m. www.modbee.com/obituaries
