Dan Germino

DAN GERMINO FEB 11, 1932 - NOV 3, 2010 Dan Germino was born February 11, 1932 in Los Banos to Salvador 'Dan' and Rose Germino. He passed away November 3, 2010 in Los Banos. Dan graduated from Los Banos High School where he served as Captain of the 1949 Championship Football Team for the Los Banos Tigers. He also was a member of the Track team and FFA. After graduating high school, Dan worked for Inland Aviation Company, loading chemicals in airplanes, until he left to served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict (1952-1954). Upon returning from the Korean War, Dan married his high school sweetheart, Erma George and built their home where they were currently residing. Dan worked for Pacific Bell as a Line Assigner and Installer, until he made the decision to go into farming full-time. over the last 41 years of farming, Dan was diversified in growing cotton, alfalfa, corn, winter grain crops, cantaloupes, sugar beets and raising cattle and rabbits. He was awarded the 1990 Conservationist of the Year presented by the Merced County Board of Supervisors. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War and Los Banos Sportsman. Dan loved life and lived it to the fullest. He loved spending time with his family and friends, to joke and make people laugh. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, camping, gambling, playing cards and dominoes with his friends. Dan was preceded in death by his parents Dan S. and Rose Germino. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Erma Germino; his sons Michael (Tracey), Mark, and Tom (Tina); his grandchildren Jason, Eric, Mitchell, Megan, Matthew Germino and Kiauna Collins. Visitation will be held Thursday, November 11, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Whitehurst Funeral Chapel, Los Banos. Funeral Service will be held Friday, November 12, 10:30 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Burial will follow at San Joaquin Valley Nat'l Cemetery. www.modbee.com/obituaries
