Earl Sweeney Obituary

EARL L. SWEENEY SEP 8, 1941 - OCT 23, 2010 ''Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.'' Psalm 116:15 Earl Sweeney, of Modesto, California, passed away Saturday, October 23, 2010 in Oak Valley Hospital. The oldest of three, Earl was born in Stigler, Oklahoma on September 8, 1941. His family moved to California in 1948. Earl graduated from Richmond Union High School in 1960. He and his wife, Dorothy, began dating in October of 1958 and married on February 25, 1962. He moved to Modesto with his family in 1968. He worked in the grocery business for over forty years before retiring in 1999. Earl was a devoted NASCAR and San Francisco sports fan. He enjoyed traveling with close friends and participated in a local bowling league for more than 25 years. Earl is survived by his daughter and son in law, Karen and Frank Solis, grandchildren, Kayla Southern and Eric Solis, brother Dennis Sweeney, numerous nieces and nephews, and dear friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Sweeney, son, Doug Sweeney, parents, Earl J. and Melba Sweeney, and sister, Donnia Phillips. Visitation will be on October 28th from 4-8PM at Lakewood Funeral Home Heritage Chapel in Hughson, California. Services will be held Friday, October 29th at 1:00PM at Lakewood Funeral Home Heritage Chapel. I worked with Earl for years at Lucky Stores and he was a great guy, I hope his decade of retirement went as well as it could considering his family losses, he worked his tail off at the store every night-Steve Keller
