ELMER MATTHEWS SEPT 3, 1921 - OCT 26, 2010 Elmer Lee Matthews passed away on October 26 at the Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson, at 89 years of age. He was born on September 3, 1921 in Asher Oklahoma and had been a resident of Modesto for the past 43 years. He is preceded in death by his wife of 70 years Hazel Matthews, their daughter Carol Ann Avara, and his twin sister Thelmer Gregg. Elmer is survived by his children, Helen Fraser of Lodi, Dolores Medrano of Salida, Norma Tayahua of Modesto, Michael Matthews of Modesto, and his grand- children Steven Fraser of Lodi, Curtis Avara of Oakdale, Denise Schultz of Escalon, Ben Medrano of Salida, Philip Medrano of Salida, Ernie Medrano Jr. of Oakdale, Christina Yassin of Israel, Victor Tayahua of Modesto and Natasha Tayahua of Modesto. Happy trails to you, until we meet again! Visitation will be held on Monday, November 1st from 2:00-5:00pm at Deegan Funeral Chapel, 1441 San Joaquin Street in Escalon. Graveside service will be on Tuesday, November 2nd at 11:00am at Oakdale Citizens Cemetery, 701 East J Street in Oakdale.
