Harvard (Harv) Pfitzer
August 5, 1932 - August 18, 2014
Harv was born in Modesto, California to Frank and Florence Pfitzer and passed away in his birth town on Monday, August 18th. He graduated from San Mateo High School in 1950 and from the University of California, San Francisco School of Pharmacy in 1959. He was a pharmacist for over 50 years, starting his career at Clifton's Corner Drug Store in Los Banos where he worked for three years. He next managed Scenic Drug in Modesto for a year before purchasing the store. Harv owned Scenic Drug from 1963 to 1993. He was known for his professional knowledge, being courteous, and focusing on his customers' needs. After selling the drug store, he worked for Walgreen's until 2012 when he retired.
During his 82 years, he served in the Army, was a dedicated husband, a member of the Elks Lodge, built a Model T car, enjoyed photography and wood working, competed on bowling teams, and enjoyed many days with his wife traveling in their motor home, fishing, taking cruises, and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Bernice Pfitizer; his children Beverly Goodwin, Diana Borges, Ron Borges (Lisa Borges), and Don Borges (Kathy Borges); his grandchildren Kerri Goodwin Bettencourt (Larry), Chris Goodwin (Savannah Goodwin), Kathryn Dickerson, Brad Borges, Mark Borges, Michelle Borges, and Brayden Borges; and his great grandchildren Avery Bettencourt and Ellie Goodwin.
There will be a viewing at Lakewood Funeral Home, 900 Santa Fe Avenue in Hughson on Monday August 25th from 6 to 8pm. The funeral will be at Lakewood Funeral Home the following Tuesday at 10am. Memorial contributions can be sent to the Intensive Care Unit at Memorial Hospital in Modesto. A story of his life can be viewed online at dignitymemorial.com under the Obituaries tab.
