Howard Barnes Obituary

HOWARD BARNES JUL 23, 1927 - SEP 29, 2010 Howard Barnes was born in Limestone Gap, Oklahoma, on July 23, 1927. He was the third and youngest son of James F. and Vin (Featherston) Barnes. His family moved to California during his youth, establishing their home in the Marysville and Yuba City area. Howard and his wife, Lillian Marie (Martin), were married in Carson City, Nevada on September 20, 1947. Howard and Marie settled permanently in Riverbank, California in 1957, where they raised their family together. Howard was retired from Contadina Foods in Riverbank, where he had worked for many years as an electrician and instrument technician. Following retirement, Howard and Marie were able to enjoy many years of travel and a myriad of hobbies. Howard particularly enjoyed all sorts of new technical gadgets and was ever curious to learn about new technologies. Howard was a poet, philosopher and story teller who never tired of visits with family and friends. Early on the morning of September 29, 2010, in his home with many of his loved ones present, Howard's long and happy life came to a close. Always ready with his wit and wisdom, Howard will be missed by all who love him dearly. In addition to his wife Marie, Howard is survived by his children; Michelle, Scott, David and their loving spouses. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and his brother Odes Barnes. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, October 6, 2010, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 800 Sylvan Road, Modesto, CA. www.modbee.com/obituaries

Howard was a good man who loved his wife and family dearly. He had a great sense of humor, a love of travel/adventure and of technology. He had a contagious laugh and smile, that is shared by his sons and grandsons. He leaves behind many wonderful memories and stories that will continue to be treasured and shared throughout his family. I am grateful that I was able to know him for the short time that I did and even more blessed that I was able to recently marry into this amazing, wonderful family that Howard and Marie started. A man is not measured by how successful he is at work or money, but by how much he loved and was loved...by his wife, children and grandchildren. In this and every aspect of his life, Howard Barnes was a huge success.
