Ivan Leslie Benedict

IVAN LESLIE BENEDICT MAR 29, 1922 - SEP 20, 2010 Ivan L. Benedict age 88 and a half, passed away September 20, 2010 at home after a long battle with cancer. Ivan was born in Watson, Missouri. He settled in the SF Bay Area following his WW II service in the US Navy. Ivan survived the attack and sinking of two ships, the USS Chicago and USS Oakland. Ivan had a natural ability to fix most mechanical items and after leaving the navy used this to enjoy a long career at United Air Lines as a mechanic. Ivan continued to use his mechanical abilities to help maintain his senior living community. Ivan loved to be out of doors hiking, fishing or going for long drives in the country. Tent camping in the local parks was a favorite way to spend his time off. Ivan is survived by his wife of 62 yrs Donna, son James, daughter Nancy, grandchildren Jenny (Phil), Pam (Bill), Becky (Sean), Julie, Wayne, great-grandchildren, Luke, Hailey, Kylie, Andrew, Brianna. He is also survived by his sister Hazel and brother Gerry. He was predeceased by his parents Leslie and Hazel, brothers Donald and Charles. Ivan will be missed by many close friends from Camellia Gardens. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Camellia Gardens in Manteca, CA. www.modbee.com/obituaries
