Janice Coates Obituary

JANICE MERRILL COATES JUN 26, 1931 - DEC 4, 2010 Janice Merrill Coates left us peacefully on December 4,2010 after a brief illness. Janice was born to the late Lyndall and Dorothy Merrill in Modesto, California. Janice attended Modesto High School and University of the Pacific. She was was a member of Delta Delta sorority, Omega Nu, past president McHenry Museum Guild, McHenry Mansion board member, and Del Rio Country Club. Janice loved to travel with her husband of 61 years Bill, playing bridge, was a voracious reader, loved the piano and music, and enjoyed the company of her family and many friends. Janice had a great love of life and was a great friend to everyone. Summers were spent at her parent's home in Rio Del Mar with her husband and children. The telephone was her main line of communication and made her daily calls to her family and friends. Janice had a great sense of humor and wit. Janice is survived by her husband Bill Sr., daughter Laurie Coates of Stockton and son Bill Jr. (Karen) of Modesto. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Matt McNelis (Laura) of Modesto, Brent McNelis (Andrea) of San Diego, Jenna Coates of Modesto, Jordan Coates of Stockton, and Austen Coates Lamke of Los Angeles. She also leaves behind two great grandchildren, Dylan Lindsey of Stockton and Olivia McNelis of Modesto, a brother Robert Merrill (Marcia) of Stockton and two nephews and their families.
