April 7, 1919 - June 8, 2014
John A. Alberdi, age 95, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 8 after a short illness.
He was born on April 17, 1919 in Boise, Idaho.  He grew up in the Susanville area and graduated with the Lassen Union High School class of 1938.
He was very proud of his service in the U.S. Army during World War II.  He served in the Asiatic-Pacific theatre and was selected to serve at General MacArthur's headquarters in Brisbane, Australia.  He also served in 2 campaigns in New Guinea and received 6 Army medals including a Presidential Citation.  He was honorably discharged as a Sgt. T4 in 1944.
He worked for many years for Challenge Foods in Stockton.  After his retirement from Challenge, he worked for several years at the Stanislaus Union School District.  He enjoyed his contact with the students there and made many good friends.
After retirement, he and his wife Alberdina loved to travel, including several trips to Europe and Alaska.  He loved to relive his trips in conversation.
He was a long time member of First Christian Reformed Church in Ripon.  In his later years he loved seeing his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and watching them grow.  He was keenly interested in news and current events.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Alberdina, of Modesto, and loving family including step-son Bill (Sue) Jamison of Ripon, sons Steven Alberdi and Greg Alberdi of Stockton, grandchildren Amy (Daniel) Dolieslager, Julie (Brandon) Powers, Mark (Kristy) Jamison, all of Ripon,  John Alberdi and Steve (Sarah) Alberdi, and Ashlee Alberdi, all of Stockton, as well as 9 great grandchildren.  He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law Gerrit and Gertrude Verver of Ripon, his sister-in-law Cornelia Verver of Ripon, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family offers their special thanks for the care and companionship provided by his caregiver June Cesmat of Modesto.
