John Burton Horan

JOHN BURTON HORAN AKA GRANDPA JB JAN 17, 1929 - DEC 15, 2010 John Burton (JB) Horan passed December 15, 2010 in Redwood Memorial, living long enough to see his beloved Giants win the World Series. JB was born January 17, 1929 in Stockton, CA to Wesley and Oleave Horan. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Barbara, brother-in-law Robert Fahey, step-daughter Shirley and his wife Florence. He proudly served in the Army in the Korean War from 1951-1953. JB joined the Oakdale Fire Department in 1958 and retired as a captain in 1981. He also drove school bus for the Oakdale Unified School District. After he retired from the fire department, JB drove for the Storer Transit Systems. His favorite was driving charter bus to Giants' games in San Francisco. His daughter Donna, by his first marriage, married Mark Harper. JB was proud to have the grandkids, Kristin, Kimberly, and Jason. He spoke of their accomplishments often and delighted they shared his love of reading. The Conley family gained a grandpa in 1979 when JB married Florence Conley. He always felt that her grown kids, Shirley, Johnny, Jimmy, Milton, Justin, and Rodney, and their wives, Vina, JoAnne, Sally, Jeri and Minerva were also his to love. He adored his grandkids: Robbie, Amy, Ryan, Heather, Darren, Clint, Shane, Garrett, Kyle, Angela, and Brett. He went to recitals, football games, science fairs, and later graduations, weddings, and baby showers. When the great-grandbabies started to arrive, he had enough love still for Geneva, Faith, Philo, and Brenden. His memorial will be January 8, at Oakdale Fire Hall at 11:00am where he will be driven to his final resting place in his old fire truck, which will be Oakdale Citizens Cemetery, to be buried next to the love of his life Florence. His life will be celebrated January 22 at 2:00pm at the Fortuna Fire Hall as well. www.modbee.com/obituaries
