The 13-year-old from small-town Kentucky, who became a social media sensation for his positive attitude about cancer, has died.

Lane, who died Wednesday night, was diagnosed with cancer in 2010. The "Thumbs-up for Lane" campaign began as a way to encourage Lane and his family. Lane had followers around the world, including many celebrities, and his Facebook page has received nearly 400,000 likes.

According to a post on the Facebook page, funeral services will be Monday and will be streamed live on the Internet.
