Margaret Lewis Obituary

MARGARET MAGGIE'' LEWIS MAY 4, 1929 - DEC 22, 2010 On December 22nd, surrounded by family, Maggie Lewis (81) quietly began her next journey. We will wish her a final farewell at a festive gathering in the Fellowship Hall at the Federated Church at 45 S. El Circulo in Patterson on Sunday, January 9 at 11:30 a.m. Maggie's first stop was Des Moines, Iowa, where she spent her childhood and married her one true love, Bob Lewis. They enjoyed a 58 year romance until Bob's death in 2007. Always eager for new sights, the two - along with six-month old daughter, Nancy - settled in Portland, Oregon where they made lifelong friends and enlarged their family with son Scott and daughter Krista. In 1960, the family headed south to the Golden State settling in Fremont, CA. Maggie became immersed in volunteer activities including the PTA, Ladies Bridge, the hospital Pink Ladies, and a crochet group called, The Happy Hookers.'' As her children began secondary school, she became an educator with the Fremont Unified School District working first in classrooms and then at the District Office. After her retirement from education, Maggie worked as a coordinator for Kaiser Hospice. During these years, Bob and Maggie also enjoyed visiting Europe, Australia, and Brazil. In 2002, the two moved to Patterson in California's Central Valley. While there, Maggie volunteered for Patterson Friends of the Library and the Westside Food Pantry. Her compassion for others led her to help serve lunches in the park for anyone in need. She also helped establish H.O.S.T. - Helping Others Sleep Tonight - a winter shelter for the homeless. During theses years she also enjoyed her exercise and bridge groups. Maggie will be remembered for her wisdom, her humor, and her compassion. But her greatest love was for her family - especially her beloved grandchildren. Maggie is survived by her children: Nancy (Gordon) Barbosa of Patterson, Scott (Concetta) Lewis of Fremont, and Krista (Curt) Perata of Fairfield. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Trevor Sowder of Redding; Jessica (Thomas) Fluehr of Hermosa Beach; Danelle (Katie) Perata of Scottsdale, AZ; Katie and Jacob Perata of Fairfield; Erica and Keith Lewis of Fremont; Janet (Andy) Pan of Pasadena; and Henry (Christie) Tsai of Walnut Creek; She also leaves her brother, Lester Scoles of Greenville, SC; her sister-in-law Addie Meckstroth of Scottsdale, AZ and six nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to H.O.S.T., c/o Federated Church, 45 S. El Circulo, Patterson, CA 95363. www.modbee.com/obituaries
