Marie Kathryn Ranzo
JUL 23, 1917 - JUN 1, 2014
Marie Kathryn Rhodes Ranzo, age 96, went to be in the arms of our Lord on June 1, 2014.  Marie Kathryn Rhodes was born July 23, 1917 in Marshfield, Wisconsin to Lawrence and Agnes (Krieg) Rhodes.  She graduated from McKinley High School in Marshfield.  She worked after High School in local retail stores and then took a job in Chicago for two years.  During WWII she went to the Barkley Air Force base in Abilene, Texas for nurses training.  There she met and married an Army first classmen, Sam Anthony Ranzo, on January 13, 1945.  After the war they moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where they had three children.  Her husband Sam wanted to move to California to be near his two sisters, Tracy and Jennie.  So in July 1951 they moved to Modesto, California.
Marie worked as a nurses aid at Memorial Hospital in Ceres while studying to get her LVN license.  She then took a job as a Psychiatric Technician at Modesto State Hospital.  When the hospital closed she went to work at Stockton State Hospital, where she was the Supervising Charge Nurse on the children's unit.  Her passion was to help others, whether it was protecting children or for helping those in need.  She was a member of St. Jude's church in Ceres until moving back to Modesto in 1975.  She has been a member of St. Joseph's Church since then.  Marie's house was always open to her grandchildren's friends and many family friends through the years. Marie loved gardening, camping, bingo, sewing, and she was an avid reader.  She and her late husband, Sam, loved the outdoors and went camping every chance they had with the grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Lawrence, her sisters Evelyn and Lucille, her husband Sam Anthony Ranzo, her son and daughter in-law, Phillip and Kathy Ranzo, and her godson David Mousseau.
She is survived  by her daughter, Sandy Howell (Steve) of Ripon and three grand-children, Michelle Goodreau(Scott) of Oakdale, Michael Naranjo(Rebecca) of Ripon and Mark Ranzo of Modesto.  Also, her greatest joy was six great-grandchildren, Kathryn Marie, Kaylee Rose, Danielle Christine, Paul Thomas, Mia Kathryn and Kyle Phillip.  Also, many special nieces, Myrna Hammack, Cheryl Guzman(Gene) and nephew Stanley Thomas(Georgeanna).  Her god-children, Renia Seibel, Connie Mousseau, Polly Pfuhl.  Marie and our family are so grateful for her best friend, Pat Robineau, and for her loving kindness and devoted care for Marie.  And for caregivers, Carol Raya, Mike Raya, Maureen Ranzo, Sherry Shanahan and niece Norma Jerome.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the  Community Hospice Foundation, www.hospiceheart.org.
