Marjorie Cran Obituary

MARJORIE ANN MAVETY CRAN JUL 7, 1921 - NOV 21, 2010 Born to Frank and Hazel Mavety in the Village of Mancelona, Michigan. The youngest of three children, she graduated from Mancelona High in 1939. She then earned her teaching credential from County Normal and taught at several one room school houses in rural Northern Michigan. She also did government clerical work in Chicago at the outset of WWII. By then, she had met George Cran and began courting. He joined the Army Air Corps and they wed in 1943 in Houston, Texas. After his discharge they returned to Mancelona, where their three children were born. In 1955 the young family moved to Modesto, CA. There Marge helped George start his home building business and became involved within the community. She was a past member of the Eastern Star, A.F.S., The Weavers Guild and other groups. She worked at voter registration and at the polls during elections. Marge traveled throughout the U.S. She also visited Canada, Mexico and Australia. Each year Marge and George returned to her family farm on Lake 27 in Northern, Michigan. They visited old friends and family and enjoyed the fall colors. Her bridge club and field trips to points of interest throughout California were a great joy to her also. The family home on Lakewood Drive was of her design and was always open to family, friends and fellow travelers. The guest room seemed to be occupied constantly. It was in this house that she passed away, having been cared for by her immediate and extended family to the end. Marge was preceded in death by her parents Frank & Hazel, brother Bill and sister Rebecca. Survivors include her husband George, son Charles (Meko), daughter Rebecca (Leonard), and son William (Sally). Grandchildren: Margie, Stuart and Hazel. The family wishes to thank all of Marge's many friends for their love and thoughtful consideration thru the years. Burial Fairview Cemetery, Mancelona, Michigan. No services. In lieu of flowers - favorite charity. www.modbee.com/obituaries

Marge will always have a very special place in my memory and my heart as my host mother during my stay as an exchange student and as a friend. Thank you Marge for sharing your life with me and my family. Susan

Marge was a wonderful neighbor. We enjoyed our visits when seeing her ride her bike or walking their dog. Our thoughts are with all the family.
