Mary Lamb Obituary

MARY C. LAMB MAY 18, 1921 - NOV 16, 2010 Mary Lamb was born Mary Margaret Crane in Ontario, Oregon, to Pearl Crane, a farmer, and Anna Crane. Her family moved to Paola, Kansas where Mary grew up. After graduating from Paola High School, Mary moved to Long Beach, California with friends from Paola to work in an airplane assembly plant for the war effort. During the war, she married Robert Poteet, also of Paola, and was widowed shortly thereafter. After the war, she moved to Berkeley, California, and standing in the registration line at Cal, met Jack Lamb. He was smitten and entertained her for hours as they waited in line. They married in 1947 in Kansas, on their way to Harvard Law School, where Mary supported them, working as a legal secretary in Boston. They settled in Modesto in 1955, working together to establish a successful law practice and then a farming enterprise. She took a degree from Stanislaus State College in 1975 with a major in Chinese History. She was a strong woman who recreated her life with grace and composure many times, as circumstances demanded. Among her many endeavors she was a professional wrestling promoter, farm manager, hay saleswoman, bookkeeper, excellent cook, and avid student of current politics. She is remembered by her business acquaintances for her friendly competence; by her friends for her hospitality and devotion; and by all for her love, strength and dedication to our family. Mary is preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Jack B. Lamb, her brothers Roy Crane and Wilson Crane, and her parents. She is survived by her daughter Bonnie Lamb of Berkeley, California and her son Dan Lamb of Turlock; grand- children Anna, James and Geoffrey Lamb. Memorial service will be held at Samaritan Village, 7700 Fox Road, Hughson, California on Monday December 20, 2010 at 4 pm. The family requests that remembrances, in lieu of flowers, be made to a public school of the donor's choice. www.modbee.com/obituaries

Condolences to Pam and Don; I didn't know Mary but I am grateful to know about her. Pam spoke very fondly of her mother-in-law in all my dealings with Pam and the Valley Sun Catchers. We painted on their property with her approval. We thank you. chella gonsalves & others of the group.

With deepest sympathy to Mary's family in their great loss. Mary was a rare gem, wise and witty, capable, genuine, practical and courageous. She added grace and joy to our lives.
