Nick Kounias, 45 of Hughson, tragically passed away on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 while attempting to defend himself against an armed intruder who entered his family's home.
Nick was born in Modesto and lived in Hughson for the last 20 years. He attended Beyer High School, worked for Seneca Fruit Cannery for 24 years, and was a seamer mechanic that worked the graveyard shift.
He attended Angelus University in Los Angeles and received a certificate of completion as a seamer mechanic. He was also a certified forklift operator. Before his death, he had planned to enroll at Modesto Junior College to become a certified welder. He was also a handyman who knew how to fix everything.
Those who knew Nick would say that he was the funniest guy they knew. He was a unique character who cracked jokes and enjoyed making people laugh. His hobbies were riding motorcycles and dirt bikes, jet skis, and shooting pool.
Nick was a member of The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Modesto. Nick and his fiancee Judy were volunteers in feeding the homeless at "Beans and Rice and Jesus Christ Ministry" at the park on Saturdays with Bethel Church. They were also volunteers at Modesto Gospel Mission.
He leaves behind a heartbroken family, parents, George & Elizabeth Kounias; fiancee Judy Henderson; brother Stratos; and sister Helen. May God bless Nick, we will never forget his big heart. We love you, miss you, and will never forget you.
Trisagion (viewing) services will be held on Friday, August 3, from 6-8pm at Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel, 419 Scenic Dr., Modesto, CA. Funeral service on Saturday, August 4 at 11am at The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, located at 313 Tokay Ave., Modesto, CA. Burial service to follow at Acacia Memorial Park, 801 Scenic Dr., Modesto, CA.
