Ora Steele Obituary

ORA GRACE STEELE 1918 ~ 2010 Our dear Mom passed away on December 2, 2010 at the age of 92. Her greatest accomplishment was being a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to all. She will be missed by all who knew her. Grace was born in Soda Springs, Idaho to the parents of Ora Harry and Orpha Winifred Brown. She had a sister Mary Alice and brother Ora Harry Jr. The family moved to Hayward, California in 1923. They later on, moved to Modesto, Cali- fornia. Grace graduated from Modesto High School in 1937. During her high school years she spent time playing the clarinet in the band and was the Drum Majorette. She served as secretary to Frank Mancini, the band leader. The band was invited to march across the opening of the Bay Bridge. Later she attended Munson School for Private Secretaries in San Francisco. Grace worked in several bookkeeping positions. She later helped her late husband, Carroll in the family feed business at Farmer Warehouse Co on 9th and L Street in Modesto. She was well known among their customers for her knowledge on rabbits and chickens. She lived a life of service and industry. Grace was always busy with her garden, sewing, raising animals, family history and preparing meals for others. She turned her garage into a used clothing outlet and provided clothes for those in needs and what was left was personally deliver to a small village in Mexico. Grace was a member of the Daughter of Utah Pioneers She leaves behind two children, Randall Steele and Lynda Blakemore. Seven grandchildren , Jenifer Keiser, Lauri Zwahlen, Tiffany Hoffman, Josh Steele, Benjamin Steele, Sabrina Rex, Jared Blakemore and also 23 great grandchildren. Her legacy of kindness and service to others will forever be a reminder to all who are left behind. Viewing will be held Friday December 10th at the Eaton Family Funeral Home at 513 12th Street, Modesto, California between 6:00pm - 8:00pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 11th at 11:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 1930 7th Street, Hughson Ca., located between Hatch Rd. and Fox Rd. In lieu of flower, donation can be sent to Alexander Cohen Hospice House, 2201 Euclid Ave., Hughson, Ca. 95326. www.modbee.com/obituaries

Grace was simply a woman of grace and compassion. I will never forget her fervor to help her adopted people in Mexico. She had boundless energy for issues she felt worthwhile. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Randall, Linda and family.
