October 3, 1953 - August 17, 2013
Peter Willem Nicholas Bakker went to be with our Heavenly Father on August 17, 2013. He was born on October 3, 1953 in Haarlem, Netherlands. He immigrated to the United States in 1954 and his family settled in Salt Lake City, Utah. It was in Salt Lake City that he met his true love and moved to Modesto, CA when they married in 1973.
Pete started his business, Coit Services, in 1975. He was passionate about his work and providing the best service for his customers. He cared deeply for his employees, many having worked for him for many years.
He attended Big Valley Grace Church and loved the Lord. He had served two terms on the Ripon Christian School Board. He had previously been involved in Rotary and Gideons where he handed out Bibles and did prison ministries. He also had been involved in Bible distribution in Mexico.
Pete was a generous man who enjoyed life. He was a great husband, father, grandfather and friend. He always desired to make his community the best it could be. He loved his garden, especially his orchids. He is now strolling through the gardens of Heaven with his brothers admiring the loveliness and lushness of the heavenly lawns and foliage.
Pete is survived by his wife of almost 40 years, Helen; children: Michelle (Anthony) Pacheco, Rebecca (Brian) Terpstra, and Tiffany (Andrew) Rodgers; grandchildren: Peter, Robert, Noah and Raegan Pacheco, Jack and Luke Terpstra, Ethan Rodgers and another one on the way, all of Modesto; brother Ernie (Verla) Bakker, and sisters in-law Audrey and Janet, all of Seattle; many nieces, nephews and in-laws. Preceding him in death were his parents Andy and Nell Bakker, and his brothers Dirk, Simon and Corry.
Celebration of life will be at Big Valley Grace Church at 11:00 am on Friday, August 23, 2013. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your favorite local charity.
