Rayetta Frances Riggs
Sept 17, 1928 - Sept 29, 2013
Rayetta Frances Riggs, 85, of Turlock, CA passed away on September 29, 2013 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Rayetta was born on September 17, 1928 in Springfield, MO, to George Raymond "Ray" Little and Elsie Frances Pearce Little.
Rayetta married her high school sweetheart Ike, and their first home was Ike's family ranch on Washington Road in Hughson, CA. After moving to Modesto, CA for three years, they decided "city life" wasn't for them and in 1959 they purchased a peach ranch on Whitmore Avenue, east of Hughson. That would be their home for the next 53 years.
While Ike continued to work for Wonder Bread and farm, Rayetta helped at harvest time running the peach-picking crew. After her four children were teenagers, Rayetta attended classes at Modesto Junior College to enhance her secretarial skills. She then worked as a secretary for Modesto Junior College, Carnation Genetics, David Aced CPA, a packing shed, and Martella Farms.
Family was a huge part of Rayetta's life. She and Ike lived within a few miles of her father Ray Little and brothers Gib, Darl, and J. Don. Life during this time included all of this extended family with potlucks (many hosted by Rayetta), camping trips to the lake, weekend bike trips, card parties, and big Thanksgiving gatherings. She and Ike enjoyed years of square dancing with the Ceres Twisters. As her many grandkids grew older, life for Rayetta got busier attending all of their sporting events.
Rayetta was known for her devotion to God, her chocolate pies and assorted cookies, her bright smile and warm hugs, and the love she showed to all. She never forgot a birthday or anniversary and would surprise loved ones with her tasty, home-baked goodies.
In addition to her parents, Rayetta is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Howard Conrad "Ike" Riggs, brothers Dallas Little (Fay), Ernest Little, Walter "Gib" Little (Bonnie), sisters-in-law Mary Little and Bess "Corny" Little, and brother-in-law Ken Briden.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are brothers Darl Little and J.Don Little; sister Vera Briden; daughters Karen Contreras of Turlock, Peggy Enos (Tom) of Turlock, and Carlene Miller (Bruce) of Pocatello, ID; son Jerry Riggs (Lisa) of Hughon; granddaughters Reneé Carranza, Lisa Mortenson, Megan Baskins, Reyni Contreras, Kylie Contreras, Melissa Vasquez, Stefani Sanchez, and Crystal Miller; grandsons Lance Enos, Josh Baskins, Justin Riggs, Brian Riggs, Marcus Riggs, Jesse Contreras, Michael Contreras, Eric Miller, and Nathanial Miller; eighteen great grandchildren (with two more on the way); many nieces, nephews, cousins from all over the United States, and many friends.
